![]() ![]() The map identifies the "Oil Region of San Fernando," just north of the newly platted City of San Fernando. ![]() The decision to publish map in 1877 was almost certainly associated with the completion of the Newhall Railway Tunnel in July 1876 and the arrival of the first train from San Francisco on August 12, 1876, launching Los Angeles toward a path to growth which began in earnest the following decade (Los Angeles had still only grown to about 11,000 people by 1880). Published at ime when the population of the City of Los Angeles was still less than 10,000 and the county perhaps twice that amount, the map illustrates the dawn of LA County's modern existence. ![]() The map was formally approved by the county board of Supervisors as the Official Map of Los Angeles County on Monday, May 3, 1878, ( LA Herald, June 4, 1878). The frame out the back of the piece with 1″ x 2″ lumber, then add heavy hardware and wire so it’s ready to hang. Then we distress the ink to achieve a weathered look before carving board grooves within the panel. We print using fine UV ink on a sheet of 1/2″ birch plywood. Corners are braced with additional bars and heavy hardware is attached to the back so your piece is ready to hang. (pictured below) We print directly on high-quality canvas, then stretch the image over heavy gauge 1.5″ deep wood stretcher bars. 14″ x 14″ or 30″ x 30″ Gallery-Wrapped Canvas Industrial silver hanging hardware is bolted to the back of the frame – it’s ready to hang on your wall. The back of the frame is sealed with a dust cover for added protection. We choose to mount the prints without an acrylic overlay, which shows off the unique properties of our paper stock when it hits the light. Our 16.5″ x 16.5″ frames have a black 2.75” wide heavy polystyrene molding. Industrial silver hanging hardware is bolted to the back of the frame – it’s ready to hang on your wall. (pictured below) The print and matt are protected by a premium crystal-clear acrylic overlay. The print is enhanced with a soft white acid-free mat, which is bevel cut and placed on top of the print. Our 23″ x 23″ frames have a black 1.75” wide genuine-wood molding with an 11.75” x 11.75” measurement inside the mat.
